Proper care of your hair prosthesis is essential to maintain its appearance and ensure its durability. At NJ Création, a recognised specialist in medical and aesthetic wigs, we know that it is essential to know how to maintain the beauty and quality of your hair. Whether you wear a wig made of natural hair or synthetic fibres, here is our advice on how to look after it every day.
1. Brush your wig gently and regularly
Brushing is the first very important step. Use a special wig brush, like our anti-static brush, or a wide-tooth comb for a curly wig, to avoid breaking the fibres.
• For wigs made from synthetic fibres: only brush dry, starting from the ends and working towards the roots.
• For natural hair wigs: you can brush them slightly damp, after applying a detangling conditioner.
NJ Création's tip: always brush your wig from the tips upwards and on a suitable support (wig stand).
2. Wash your wig regularly, but not excessively
We recommend washing every 10 to 15 ports, depending on your lifestyle. Too many washes will weaken the fibres, especially in the case of synthetic wigs.
Steps to a good wash:
1. Untangle the wig before washing.
2. Soak in cold water (if synthetic or mixed fibre) or lukewarm water (if natural hair) with 3 or 4 dabs of special wig shampoo.
3. Immerse the hair in the bubble bath and gently massage without rubbing or twisting. Leave for a short time before rinsing thoroughly.
4. In the final rinse water, add a spoonful of mild conditioner and leave the wig to soak for 2 minutes.
5. Remove the hair from the water and place it on a microfibre towel. Press gently to remove excess water and then leave to air dry on a wig stand to allow it to keep its shape.
3. Use the right products
To take the best possible care of your hair prosthesis, we recommend that you use products specifically formulated for wigs, as conventional hair care products can weigh down, grease or damage the fibre. 4. Storing your wig correctly
When you're not wearing your wig, store it on a wig head to help it keep its shape, in a dry place away from the sun, dust and heat.
5. Taking care of your wig on a daily basis
- Avoid rubbing (scarf, scarf, pillow, etc.)
- Do not sleep with your wig on
- Avoid sources of direct heat
- Do not colour, bleach, perm or straighten your natural hair wig without asking your hairdresser for advice.
